The weight that the sticky pad can hold is directly related to the area of the pad. The sticky pad on the base of HiLO Lens is designed to hold 10 times the weight of HiLO Lens.
To demonstrate just how sticky the pad is, check out the prototype :
The iPhone weighs a lot more than 10 times the HiLO Lens. Hold HiLO like this for long and the iPhone will fall. I may have taken this photo while leaning out the window of a tall building, but it would be wiser to stand over a pillow….
Never do this with your own iPhone and HiLO Lens – it is not designed for this!
There are a few secrets to maximizing the stickiness of the pad :
- Wipe the iPhone before sticking HiLO Lens to it. The iPhone typically has some grease from hands and grease is the enemy of stickiness. Simply wipe the back of the iPhone on a t-shirt/pants etc and most of the grease will be removed.
- Keep the sticky pad clean. You can clean it with a very small amount of soapy water. Then let it air dry. The pad can be used dozens of times before needing to be cleaned.
- Give the lens a good squeeze onto the iPhone after aligning it. Pushing HiLO Lens onto the iPhone makes sure the bond is strong.
After sticking the lens to the iPhone you can feel how well it is stuck. If you notice it can come off with less force than usual then it is time to clean the sticky pad.
To top it off – when removing HiLO Lens it does not leave any trace on your iPhone !
