If you don’t know David Ponce (yes that is a real name) then you can consider yourself lucky. It is likely that the last creep you moved away from was David Ponce. David was probably out being a sleaze ball instead of attending Psychology 101.
If David had attended Psychology 101 he would know that the judgements he makes are a reflection of the way he sees the world. David is the owner, editor, writer and coffee boy at OhGizmo, a blog where he decided to do a review of the HiLO Lens.
Some people see a kitchen knife as a cooking utensil and some people see a kitchen knife as a means for killing people. Luckily there are very few of these lunatics in the world. They usually keep themselves well hidden. Now David has done us the honor of coming out of the closet as a pervert. You see the first idea that came into David’s mind when he saw HiLO Lens was a “Creep’s best friend”. There is one creep in this story David and you get to look in his eyes every day.
If you think that HiLO Lens is going to help you be a pervert or creep then you are not only demonstrating your own twisted mindset but also your stupidity. Being able to take a photo to the right or left (which David suggests doing) means you can capture an image that you would see by turning your head. So when David gets himself into these situations I suggest he save his money and turn his head to satisfy his creepy urges.
David please go and find another product to abuse. I’m sure you own a long list or spend hours dreaming about the creepy things you want to be doing. We don’t need or desire your creepy advertising of HiLO Lens to other creeps reading your blog.
We can thank David Ponce for doing one thing and that is exposing his perverted creepy mindset for what it is. David you have a long path to travel, I suggest you start by turning around and reversing up to the point where you missed that psy 101 class. Read the book have a good long hard think and choose a different path – one that does not involve writing.
Hi Mark,
First, I’d like to thank you for your culturally insensitive remark about my name. Maybe they’ve never seen people of Latin American descent down in New Zealand, but let me assure you that both my surname AND name are quite common.
Secondly, Mark… get real. You can go all over the Internet posting aggressive defenses of your fledgling product, but you’re only harming yourself and your image. The thoughts I had about your product were not only mine. They were shared by Cult Of Mac, and Ubergizmo, and Gizmag, and almost every single outlet that had the misfortune of covering your ill-conceived product. Whether you like it or not, and whether you intended it when designing the HiLO lens… what I suggested is a use people will often think of all by themselves. It’s just that kind if product. Really, Mark, who gives a crap that you can take up shots without having to tilt your phone up?
I won’t come down to your level and fling insults your way. You’re probably already pretty upset these days anyway: HiLO looks like it won’t reach it’s funding goals after all.
I wonder why…
Hi David,
With your level of cultural awareness you should know that “Ponce” is an insulting term in western cultures. So my remark that Ponce “is a real name” for was for the benefit of readers who may otherwise assume that Ponce was an insult.
You will also know that creep is a very insulting term. Creeps are people that nobody wants to be associated with. That you dedicated an article to the topic indicates that deep down you consider yourself to be a creep. In that regard I feel sorry for you but obviously polite society has not trained you to behave. Maybe a more direct approach like this one will help you evolve.
My reply is aggressive David, it is aggressive because you choose to be aggressive in the article you published. When you write responsibly you will not receive this type of criticism.
Rather than complianing about being treated the same way that you treat others, I hope you will take the time to think about the types of articles you write. There are dozens of articles about HiLO Lens and some of them do raise privacy concerns. There are only two twisted people who decided to expose their own perverted nature by focusing obsessively on how HiLO Lens could be abused. That is yourself and Cult of Mac. I replied to the editor of cult of mac in the same tone – check the comments.
HiLO Lens is a concept, and we are trying to raise funds on Kickstarter. As you’ve mentioned in interviews you are not a creative person. You have blindly copied the Cult of Mac article (and increased the level of insult) without taking the time to learn about HiLO Lens. It is clear to most writers that HiLO Lens is not encouraging perverted uses of the technology. We do not deserve your misinformed insults.
Rather than focusing on the negative and encouraging perverted uses of technology. Why not write about another subject. If you do want to raise privacy concerns then do it within the context of the project (e.g. take 3 minutes to watch the Kickstarter video first). Don’t waste your time trying to destroy the work of others.
You started flinging insults. If you want to accept that your approach is not the best then I’m quite happy to copy that behavior too. But if you stick to your perverted attitude then I’ll continue to call you out for being a pervert.
You are right that HiLO Lens may not reach the funding goal. One of the reasons will be because we did not get positive exposure in the media. However it would also be a confirmation that the market is not there for a product like this. We will see.
However there are hundreds of people that like the idea. Many respected writers can see value in the idea. You are implying that these people are perverts or wasting their time, that is insulting to them. I feel the least I should do is make sure you get as good as you give.
You can continue wasting your time blogging about how perverted people can misuse technology or you can go and build/contribute to something. If you do choose to do the later then I’ll happily support you to do that. If you choose to focus on the negative then there is a long list of technologies you can waste your time on – swivel screen cameras, telephoto zooms, small cameras and the list goes on and on.
I’ve changed the title of the post and added a question mark. You decide on the answer.
