Recently a podcast mentioned that HiLO Lens is a “dumb idea”. Naturally I was disappointed but I contacted the podcast to learn more. Criticism is a chance to improve so I was keen to hear their point of view.
Marc Sadowski was one of the podcasters. He told me “If you would like to send us a HiLO lens, I’m more than willing to give it a go.” If he had taken 2 seconds to look into the project he would realize we do not have a product to give away.
After explaining that I could not give him a product, but would like to know more about why HiLO Lens is a “dumb idea” he replied “As for further discussion, there is none. You yourself said that there is no product yet.”
Marc will not discuss his point of view about an idea because there is no product. But he thinks it is fine to publish insults without the product. In the competition for dumb Marc is a winner.
Kieth Harp, another of the podcasters, then weighed in. His attitude is appalling. I had suggested they offer any creator an opporuntity to address concerns before publicly demeaning people and ideas. Keith’s reply : “You placed your idea on the internet, there is no ethical rule that suggests I must contact you prior to discussing your public idea.” That is true, but ethics is about doing the right thing not doing the legal thing.
So if you think HiLO Lens is a dumb idea then please share your insight. Of course you are well within your rights to criticize but an opinionated ignoramus is not a good look.
Keith is a photographer and after looking at his bloated website full of cliche shots I’m guessing that with friends like Marc he knows it is crappy but not why.
I have a thick skin – the result of many mistakes. The internet is a jungle and full of monkeys. But it does provide entertainment.
