I like the name iCatchYa. It is fun and simple. But after sharing the concept of iCatchYa with more people a problem became clear.
For some people an angled lens risks to be abused for spying or being sneaky. Everyone who raises this point would “not use it for this themselves”. They are worried about what other people will do. Personally I am worried about them.
I want to be perfectly clear. This accessory is NOT about being sneaky. Here are some of the main uses:
- high angle shots
- low angle shots
- replacing a tripod
Another use is in street photography by making it easier to “shoot from the hip“. Street photography does not infringe on people’s privacy. It is by definition photography in public spaces.
For comparison consider a camera’s zoom lens. This can be used to invade people’s privacy. It is the choice of the photographer to behave ethically.
I do not want to encourage people to be sneaky and there is a risk that people hear “iCatchYa” as “I catch you when you don’t want to be caught”. Quite a mouthful.
So I’m planning a name change in the very near future. This is not the first name change but here’s hoping it will be the last !
