Hi David,

With your level of cultural awareness you should know that "Ponce" is an insulting term in western cultures. So my remark that Ponce "is a real name" for was for the benefit of readers who may otherwise assume that Ponce was an insult.

You will also know that creep is a very insulting term. Creeps are people that nobody wants to be associated with. That you dedicated an article to the topic indicates that deep down you consider yourself to be a creep. In that regard I feel sorry for you but obviously polite society has not trained you to behave. Maybe a more direct approach like this one will help you evolve.

My reply is aggressive David, it is aggressive because you choose to be aggressive in the article you published. When you write responsibly you will not receive this type of criticism.

Rather than complianing about being treated the same way that you treat others, I hope you will take the time to think about the types of articles you write. There are dozens of articles about HiLO Lens and some of them do raise privacy concerns. There are only two twisted people who decided to expose their own perverted nature by focusing obsessively on how HiLO Lens could be abused. That is yourself and Cult of Mac. I replied to the editor of cult of mac in the same tone - check the comments.

HiLO Lens is a concept, and we are trying to raise funds on Kickstarter. As you've mentioned in interviews you are not a creative person. You have blindly copied the Cult of Mac article (and increased the level of insult) without taking the time to learn about HiLO Lens. It is clear to most writers that HiLO Lens is not encouraging perverted uses of the technology. We do not deserve your misinformed insults.

Rather than focusing on the negative and encouraging perverted uses of technology. Why not write about another subject. If you do want to raise privacy concerns then do it within the context of the project (e.g. take 3 minutes to watch the Kickstarter video first). Don't waste your time trying to destroy the work of others.

You started flinging insults. If you want to accept that your approach is not the best then I'm quite happy to copy that behavior too. But if you stick to your perverted attitude then I'll continue to call you out for being a pervert.

You are right that HiLO Lens may not reach the funding goal. One of the reasons will be because we did not get positive exposure in the media. However it would also be a confirmation that the market is not there for a product like this. We will see.

However there are hundreds of people that like the idea. Many respected writers can see value in the idea. You are implying that these people are perverts or wasting their time, that is insulting to them. I feel the least I should do is make sure you get as good as you give.

You can continue wasting your time blogging about how perverted people can misuse technology or you can go and build/contribute to something. If you do choose to do the later then I'll happily support you to do that. If you choose to focus on the negative then there is a long list of technologies you can waste your time on - swivel screen cameras, telephoto zooms, small cameras and the list goes on and on.

I've changed the title of the post and added a question mark. You decide on the answer.

Hi Mark,

First, I'd like to thank you for your culturally insensitive remark about my name. Maybe they've never seen people of Latin American descent down in New Zealand, but let me assure you that both my surname AND name are quite common.

Secondly, Mark... get real. You can go all over the Internet posting aggressive defenses of your fledgling product, but you're only harming yourself and your image. The thoughts I had about your product were not only mine. They were shared by Cult Of Mac, and Ubergizmo, and Gizmag, and almost every single outlet that had the misfortune of covering your ill-conceived product. Whether you like it or not, and whether you intended it when designing the HiLO lens... what I suggested is a use people will often think of all by themselves. It's just that kind if product. Really, Mark, who gives a crap that you can take up shots without having to tilt your phone up?

I won't come down to your level and fling insults your way. You're probably already pretty upset these days anyway: HiLO looks like it won't reach it's funding goals after all.

I wonder why...

Hi Jason, trademarks can be infringed when "playing" on a word but you are right that it requires interpretation. The courts are there to do the interpretation if you have the time/money. In OlloClip's own website they explain that the word "Ollo" means to see in several languages. The App OlloCorrect was calibrated to work with the OlloClip. My goal was to make existing owners of the Olloclip aware of the HiLO Lens. The OlloCorrect app is not designed to work with the HiLO Lens (we have another app for that). So it would be confusing to name the OlloCorrect app HiLOCorrect - but it is a good idea. Thanks for your interest! Mark.

I may be overly simplistic, but when talking trademark you have to be more than just infringing on a play of words in a name. Take a look at the punctuation of olliclip vs OlloCorrect and logo are not in any likeness.

The weight is on olloclip to prove the infringement.

To be devil's advocate though, why wasn't the app called HiLOcorrect?

We have reached a conclusion of sorts. I had hoped that Olloclip was using a rogue lawyer with no business sense. It turns out that Olloclip do not want to discuss the situation - the lawyer with no business sense has confirmed his employer has no business sense either.

Because of the disagreeable and aggressive attitude that Olloclip takes I am willing to make a special effort to help their competition.

The OlloCorrect app will be available for a limited time while I'm in discussions with Olloclip's competitors. For example the Photojojo lenses or iPro System lenses. If one of theses companies wants an app calibrated to support their product, developed for free and promoted for free then I will be doing that.

If nothing else I hope I'll be making my small contribution to ensuring people with aggressive and unfriendly attitudes do eventually fail.

From what I've seen the cheap magnet-style lenses use the same quality optics as Olloclip - is that your experience ?

I was not aware of the Phocus project - thanks.

I'll reach out to iPro and see if they are interested in OlloCorrect's functionality. Thanks !

Maybe BarrelCorrect? DistortionCorrect? No... those aren't very good names.

There's tons of other cheap magnet-style lenses, but I think the only other main-stream iPhone lens would be the iPro lens system (www.iprolens.com). I've ordered an iPhone 5 and am keeping an eye on Phocus (www.smartphocus.com). These are the same guys who had the functional - but really bulky - OWLE wide-angle lens. Form, function and value of this product looks really great.

Good luck.

Hi Bruce, thanks for your feedback. The OlloCorrect app is designed for the Olloclip. Even if the product has a completely different name it is likely some people would assume Olloclip made it. Because OlloCorrect is an accessory for the Olloclip I think this is unavoidable. I really dislike how Olloclip is behaving. I believe OlloCorrect (or the same app with another name) helps sell more Olloclips (because other lenses don't have an app). So if I need to rename the app I will also take the time to calibrate another add-on lens e.g. the PhotoJoJo lenses.

I'm not aware of any other OlloThings out there. Olloclip currently make one product in the optics space (not software).

Is there another brand of add-on lens you would like to see supported ?

Hey Mark - Agree with Mike. The "Ollocorrect" name is about as close to "Olloclip" as one could get. Is there another "Ollo-anything" out there? When I downloaded the app, I thought it was from Olloclip.

I use and like your product, and there's definitely a need for it. I would rename it and move on. Good luck.
